The Four College Systems Of California
The University of California (UCs)
- There are 9 undergraduate schools.
- Students must fulfill the A-G Requirements with a "C" or better. Students are expected to also take the "recommended" courses.
- You must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or better.
- You must take the SAT or ACT with a "corresponding" score to your GPA.
- You must submit a personal statement and/or essay.
- You must have graduated High School
The California State University
- There are 23 undergraduate schools.
- Students must fulfill the A-G Requirements with a "C" or better.
- You must have an overall GPA of 2.0 or better.
- You must take the SAT or ACT with a "corresponding" score to your GPA.
- You must submit a personal statement and/or essay for EOP but not necessarily for the application. You should!
- You must have graduated High School.
- Students from the local area are given "priority" to their local CSU: CSU Los Angeles, CSU Northridge and CSU Domingues Hills
The Community College System
- Must be 18 or have graduated from high school.
- Students can then transfer to a 4-year and finish off their Bachelor's.
Private Schools
- Private universities have similar requirements to the UCs and CSUs.
- Usually requires a personal statement
- Some may ask for letters of recommendation (like USC for example)
- Private art/music/dance may have different requirements from UCs and CSUs
- Usually requires an audition or portfolio
- Many use the "Common App" application system to apply.
